STORE DISCOVERY

How to check WooCommerce sitemaps and canonical URLs.

A product cannot be reliably discovered if crawlers are being pointed at the wrong URL, an outdated sitemap, or a redirect chain.

Start with the product URL you want discovered.

  • Open the public product URL in a signed-out browser.
  • Confirm it loads without a login wall, challenge screen, or unexpected redirect.
  • Check that the final URL is the URL you actually want indexed.
  • Confirm the page canonical points to that intended URL.
  • Check that the product appears in the current XML sitemap.
  • Make sure old or duplicate product URLs are not being presented as equally authoritative.

Common WooCommerce problems

Product imports, permalink changes, SEO plugins, multilingual setups, staging migrations, redirects, and duplicate schema generators can all create mismatches. The important thing is consistency: the public URL, canonical, sitemap entry and product data should all describe the same live product.

After a fix, test the live page again

Clear the relevant cache, revisit the public product URL and re-check the canonical, indexability and structured data. A saved WordPress setting is not proof that the public response changed.

Store Discovery Audit checks these paths together.

Use the Discovery and Products screens to inspect visibility, sitemaps, canonicals and live product-page results without jumping between unrelated tools.
