AI ACTIVITY

How to monitor AI crawler activity on a WordPress store.

Crawler activity tells you that a recognized request reached WordPress. It does not tell you that your store was recommended, ranked, or used in an answer.

Know what the activity log can prove.

  • A recognized crawler requested a URL that reached WordPress.
  • The request matched a known crawler identity or verification rule used by the monitor.
  • AI referral traffic may be recorded separately when a visitor reaches the store from a recognized AI referral source.

Zero activity is not automatically a problem

A crawler may simply not have visited yet. Requests may also be served entirely by a CDN or cache before WordPress sees them. Monitoring cannot reconstruct visits from before it was enabled.

Protect visitor privacy

A useful activity monitor does not need to become a general visitor-tracking system. Store Discovery Audit records recognized event details while avoiding storage of visitor IP addresses, user-agent strings and referrers as visitor-history fields.

Look for patterns, not vanity numbers

Useful questions include: Which product paths are being requested? Did activity change after a robots or sitemap change? Are AI referrals reaching products or just the homepage? Did a technical regression appear at the same time?

Monitor the same store you audit.

Store Discovery Audit keeps crawler activity alongside discovery and product-readiness checks so activity has context.
