AI COMMERCE GUIDE

How to prepare WooCommerce product data for AI shopping systems.

AI shopping systems need more than a product title and price. Complete, consistent commerce data gives machines a better chance of understanding what is sold, who it is for, and whether it can actually be purchased.

Write titles and descriptions for identification

Use a product title that identifies the item without depending on the surrounding category page. Avoid titles that make sense only to an internal team, such as a model number with no product type or a collection name with no description.

The short and full descriptions should answer different questions: what the product is, its important characteristics, who it suits, what is included, and any material limitations. Do not pad the copy with vague AI keywords.

Add stable product identifiers

Complete the SKU and, where available, brand, GTIN, UPC, EAN, ISBN, or MPN. Identifiers help systems distinguish one product from similar items and connect the store listing to known product information.

Do not invent identifiers to make a check turn green. Incorrect identifiers create worse data than leaving an unavailable field empty. Use the values assigned by the manufacturer or the identifiers legitimately used by the business.

Keep price, inventory, and variations consistent

A customer and a machine should see the same current price and availability. Check sale dates, currency, stock status, backorders, and variation-level prices. Variable products need meaningful attribute names and complete data for each purchasable option.

If a variation is unavailable, say so accurately. Conflicting visible text and structured data can make the offer harder to trust and may produce misleading shopping information.

Use useful images and product attributes

Provide clear images that represent the actual product and variations. Use descriptive alternative text where it helps accessibility, but do not stuff it with keywords. Complete relevant attributes such as size, color, material, weight, and dimensions.

Shipping and return information also matter. A product is not fully understandable as a commerce offer if the buyer cannot determine delivery limits, costs, timing, or the basic return policy.

Validate structured data against the page

Product schema should reflect the visible offer: product name, images, description, identifiers, brand, price, currency, availability, and variation details where supported. Structured data is not a place to claim information that customers cannot see.

Treat readiness as a checklist of evidence, not a single score. Fix clear omissions, keep the information current, and recheck after catalog or plugin changes.

Turn the checklist into a repeatable process.
